Touching Gray Whales in Baja California

Description: San Ignacio Lagoon is a sheltered breeding and calving lagoon on the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico, inside the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Every December to April, hundreds of California gray whales migrate here from Alaskan waters to mate and give birth, and a remarkable number approach the small panga boats to be touched. Trips are typically camp based multi day excursions reached via Loreto, with outings limited to licensed boats inside a designated whale watching zone.
