Encounter Gray Whales in Baja California
Worth a detour
Torres del Paine in Chilean Patagonia, reached via Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, holds the densest known puma population on Earth. Expert local trackers read guanaco behavior and sign to locate the cats, then guide small groups to watch from a respectful distance. Dawn starts and patient glassing often end with a puma stretched on a ridge in golden light. The shoulder months of late April through May and September through November bring fewer crowds and more relaxed cats.

The only place in the world where wild pumas are reliably watched. A big cat encounter to stand beside tigers and jaguars, set in the most dramatic mountains of the south.
