Encounter Gray Whales in Baja California
Worth a detour
Kibale National Park lies in western Uganda, about five hours by road from Entebbe. Guided treks follow habituated chimpanzee communities through dense rainforest, ending in an hour of watching them groom, feed and squabble in the canopy. The forest erupts first in sound, with pant hoots rolling through the trees long before the first chimp comes into view. Treks run year round, with the drier months of June through August and December through February offering the easiest walking. Wild chimpanzees are also tracked at Gombe Stream and Mahale Mountains in Tanzania, and in Budongo Forest, Uganda.

Kibale holds one of the highest primate densities on Earth, and its chimps are among the most reliably seen.
