Watch Right Whale Mothers and Calves in Patagonia
Every southern winter, the calm gulfs of Peninsula Valdes fill with southern right whales. Mothers arrive after a year-long pregnancy and give birth in the sheltered shallows, most calves born in August. From a small boat out of Puerto Piramides, or even standing on the beach at El Doradillo, you can watch mothers nursing newborns just meters away, the calves already the size of a small boat.
