Encounter Gray Whales in Baja California
Worth a detour
Amboseli National Park, about four hours from Nairobi, Kenya, holds some of Africa's largest elephant herds on open plains. Family groups cross the dry lake bed in long lines, calves tucked between adults, with Kilimanjaro rising behind them on clear mornings. The marshes draw great bulls carrying some of the heaviest tusks left on the continent. The dry months of June through October concentrate the herds and offer the clearest views of the mountain.

The classic elephant spectacle. Big herds, great tuskers, and the Kilimanjaro backdrop. Nowhere else pairs elephants with a mountain like this.
