Redwood National Park
Redwood sits on the northern California coast, about six hours north of San Francisco. It protects the world's tallest trees, coast redwoods rising nearly 380 feet, in some of the last old growth forest on earth. Walk Stout Grove among cathedral like trunks, or wade Fern Canyon where 50 foot walls drip with ferns. Summer and fall are the time to go, when the trails are driest and the fog thins enough for sunlight to reach the forest floor.

Hyperion grows in this park, the tallest living thing on earth at nearly 380 feet, its exact location kept secret. Walk Stout Grove among trees nearly as tall, and the scale of the forest stops feeling real. Then wade Fern Canyon, a shallow creek between 50 foot walls of ferns, a valley that feels untouched since the dinosaurs.
