Dry Tortugas National Park
Worth making time for
Biscayne National Park is in South Florida near Homestead, about 45 minutes from Miami. It is 95 percent water, protecting coral reefs, mangrove shoreline, and the northernmost Florida Keys. Snorkelers and divers swim over living coral and the Maritime Heritage Trail's old shipwrecks, while boat tours reach Boca Chita Key's lighthouse. Best season is the dry season: December through April brings calmer seas and clearer water.

Over 600 fish species crowd the reefs, along with spotted eagle rays, green sea turtles, manatees, and bottlenose dolphins. It is a national park you experience by boat and mask, not on foot.
