Solheimajokull Glacier Hike

Solheimajokull is an outlet of the Myrdalsjokull ice cap on Iceland's south coast, and the ice cap sits over the active Katla volcano: the black striping the ice is volcanic ash. Before you reach the ice you cross black volcanic sand and gravel; the ice near the snout looks dirty from the ash, but walk further in and it turns clean. Guided hikes run year round through crevasse fields reshaped every season.
