Glacier Bay National Park
In Alaska's southeast, Glacier Bay National Park is reached from Juneau, by cruise ship or a short flight to the tiny town of Gustavus. Its 65 mile fjord is walled by tidewater glaciers that calve 200 foot icebergs into the water. Cruise ships sail within a quarter mile of the Margerie and Grand Pacific glaciers at the head of the bay, and humpback whales feed in the same waters all summer. Mid May to mid September is the season, with June to August the peak.

Few places let you watch tidewater glaciers calve 200 foot icebergs into the sea from a cruise ship deck, with humpback whales feeding in the same water. And the whole bay was buried under ice just 250 years ago, one of the fastest glacial retreats on record, so you are watching a landscape still being born.
