Saguaro National Park

Saguaro National Park is just outside Tucson, Arizona, about half an hour from downtown. It is a forest of giant saguaro cacti, the towering symbols of the American West, some over 40 feet tall and 200 years old, standing so thick you walk among them like trees. Best season is winter and spring: October through April brings mild days, and late February through April brings desert wildflowers.

Why this one matters

The saguaros feel almost human. Each one grows differently, some with arms raised like people, and at sunset their silhouettes are the desert image everyone knows.
