Rocky Mountain National Park
Worth making time for
About four hours north of Los Angeles, Sequoia National Park protects the largest living trees on Earth. The General Sherman Tree stands 275 feet tall and has been growing for 2,200 years, and the Giant Forest around it holds five of the ten largest trees in the world. Walk the Congress Trail beneath them, climb Moro Rock for the Sierra view, or descend into Crystal Cave in summer. May through October is the season, when every road and trail is open.

No living thing on Earth is bigger. Standing at the foot of General Sherman recalibrates your sense of scale, and the Giant Forest keeps recalibrating it, tree after tree.
